Where's The Clicker!
INT. SAM'S FLAT
SAM is sitting in his old armchair, the TV is still blaring image and the unkempt room still looks as archaic as before.
SAM picks up a PHOTOGRAPH on his right hand coffee table and stares at it before quickly putting it down as the door knocks
SPX: DOOR KNOCK
SAM
It's open
MATT enters, sulkily in a black hoodie.
MATT
Hi.
SAM doesn't pay him any attention, focusing once again on the television screen.
MATT
(cont'd)
I was serving in the tea room while you were away.
SAM
Hmph.
MATT
...did you want some tea?
SAM
No.
MATT impatiently starts to look round at SAM's FLAT.
Angle on the TV
MATT
Why haven't you turned the volume up?
SAM
I can't hear it anyway.
(beat)
MATT
Right...(pause) I guess I didn't get to
introduce myself properly yesterday.
SAM
You're Matthew, I'm Sam. Now we know each other.
MATT
I prefer Matt
SAM
(cutting Matt off)
Whatever.
(beat)
A long breathe of silence, Matt scuffs his feet against the carpet, to add to SAM's annoyance
MATT
I'm sorry we got off on the wrong foot yesterday.
SAM
Boy, I fell over. I hurt my knee.
What's done is done. Forget about it!
MATT
All right
SAM
All right!
(beat)
MATT
(gestures to the TV)
Are you sure about the volume?
I could turn it up for you?
MATT starts to skim his eyes across the room
MATT
(cont'd)
Where's the remote?
SAM
What!?
MATT
You know, the remote, The controller?
Matt does an impression of pressing a remote control.
SAM
(cups his ears and shouts louder)
WHAT?
MATT
(defeatedly)
Never mind...
MATT starts to move around the small room to find SAM's
remote and STRUGGLES to find one. He checks the TELEVISION which is
sparse of buttons and so continues on his search and keeping out of SAM'S line of sight. Eventually he is
DISTRACTED by the material items SAM has on display. A CLOCK, A variety of PHOTOFRAME's and ORNAMENTS.
MATT
You've got some really nice stuff...
SAM pays MATT no attention, fixated on his mute television.
MATT picks up a PHOTOGRAPH FRAME that catches his eye and STARES at it for a long time. His eyes are wide with recognition.
MATT
(cont'd)
When was this taken?
MATT hands the PHOTOGRAPH FRAME to SAM, who grunts putting his glasses further up his nose for a clearer view.
SAM
About twenty years ago. Rupert and his girlfriend Alice.
SAM practically throws the PHOTOGRAPH FRAME back into MATT'S clutches.
SAM
(cont'd)
You found my clicker yet?!
MATT is still staring at the photo and doesn't respond.
SAM grits his teeth and avoids the boy's gaze.
SAM
She was a good kid, Alice. Really bright. I think I spoke to her only a couple of times. A bit shy, liked to be liked.
MATT
(nodding)
Dad doesn't talk about her very much.
(beat)
SAM
(roars in annoyance)
Where is that blasted remote, it was here yesterday!

Part of a play I'm writing. Enjoy :)
